Dr Minty’s achievements and accolades during her career in psychiatry include:

About Dr Yumna Minty

 

Following the completion of her medical degree at Wits University, Dr Minty did her clinical internship at Baragwanath Hospital. She then worked for the South African Military Health Service before rejoining the academic circuit and commencing her specialist training in psychiatry.

She obtained a Fellowship in Psychiatry from the College of Medicines as well as a Master’s degree in Medicine in the field of Psychiatry from Wits University, in the same year.

Dr Minty has maintained her passion for academic pursuits and continuous development – as a lecturer at Wits University, she is involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching, as well as the supervision of Master’s research.

She is also working towards obtaining an additional Certification in Perinatal Mental Health.

She is passionate about advocating for mental health – in this capacity, she has acted as a spokesperson for the South African Society of Psychiatrists, given radio and TV interviews and has also featured as a speaker at mental health workshops.

At present, Dr Minty works in the psychiatric department of a state facility, where she manages inpatients and also consults at the hospital’s maternal mental health clinic.

In addition to this, she also consults privately, where she manages a broad range of psychiatric illnesses, on an outpatient basis.
